Auto Show

As it enters its 27th year, First Look for Charity has helped raise nearly $48 million for Chicago-area charities. Attendees at the charity gala will be treated to complimentary hors d’oeuvres; champagne, wine, beer and soft drinks; and special entertainment presented by the automakers in their displays – all while being the first to see the nation’s largest auto show – the Chicago Auto Show – before it opens to the public the following day.

The Chicago Auto Show is the largest auto show in North America, spanning more than one million square feet of production, concept and exotic vehicle exhibit space.

The Chicago Auto Show’s First Look for Charity

  • Will be held on Friday, Feb. 9 from 7-11 p.m.
  • Is recognized as one of Chicago’s premier, single-day fundraisers
  • Annually raises more than $2.5 million for 18 local charities

Appetizers will also be provided by Mercadito Chicago’s Chef Aldo Ayala.

The Día de los Muertos Mixology Academy costs $45 per guest. Reservations are required.

Experiential Dinner – Monday, Oct. 23 from 6-9 p.m.

Guests are invited to enjoy five courses accompanied by five Casamigos Tequila cocktails. The dinner is hosted by Monica Dim of Casamigos Tequila and Chef Aldo Ayala of Mercadito.

The festivities begin with Sopa de Calabaza, roasted pumpkin, mole spices, pomegranate and crispy sage.

Guests will then revel in Tamal de Camarón, banana leaf wrapped corn masa, shrimp, chayote, green beans, mole Amarillo, crema fresca and crispy shallots.

Next on the menu is Taco de Mixiote de Cordero, guajillo marinated braised lamb, maguey leaf, caramelized sweet potato, tomatillo salsa and crispy sweet potato.

For the fourth course, guests will be treated to Callo de Hacha, pan-seared diver scallops, butternut squash hash, roasted jalapeño, pumpkin seed vinaigrette and crispy brussels sprouts.

To end with a traditional treat, guests will enjoy Pan de Muerto, Mexican chocolate, mezcal whipped cream, cinnamon, vanilla and orange zest.

The Día de los Muertos Experiential Dinner is $85 per guest, plus tax and gratuity. Reservations are required.

Petterino’s gears up to celebrate 10 years of Monday Night Live

“MNL began a decade ago with a simple concept – provide a unique entertainment option in Chicago’s theater district on a typically “dark night”. We’ve blended a sophisticated setting, professional atmosphere and appreciative audience for established and emerging singers to try out new work or simply have some fun,” says MNL executive producer, founder and co-host Denise McGowan Tracy. “We’re thrilled that it caught on and that the unique combination of talent, supper club setting and location has made MNL one of the longest-running open mic concepts in Chicago.”

Nearly 800 singers have stepped onto the stage over the years. Cast members from dozens of touring and local productions from theaters including The Goodman, The Lyric Opera, Porchlight Music Theatre, Kokandy Productions, Broadway in Chicago, and many others have popped up in MNL’s audience. Jazz artists, cabaret performers, opera singers, pop vocalists have also shared their musical talents.

The anniversary celebration will run for a month every Monday beginning September 25.

Each evening will feature $10 wine bottle specials; and a complimentary slice of birthday cake and Champagne toast for guests.

September 25 – The SOLD OUT kick-off event promises appearances by old friends and new from the cabaret community in the impromptu format that has delighted crowds over the years

Denise McGowan Tracy, who pitched the idea to Lettuce Entertain You and produces and co-hosts the evening, has been a presence in Chicago’s entertainment community on-stage and behind the scenes for over 30 years. Culinary Fight Club Pitmaster Throw down Challenge – Monday, June 19

On Monday, June 19, Hard Rock Cafe will host a Culinary Fight Club Pitmaster Throw down Challenge from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., where four local Chicago chefs will battle it out in a seriously tasty cook-off. A portion of proceeds from the event will benefit Fight2Feed, a non-profit with a mission end hunger in Chicago by partnering with local restaurants to reduce food waste and share food with people in need.

Participating chefs will have two hours to create their best dish that combines the art of BBQ, grilling and open fire cooking. Industry experts will judge contestants based on presentation and how well the chefs have mastered the pit by cooking up the perfect protein and two sides.

Competing chefs include: Dylan Lipe, The Budlong Hot Chicken; Hipolito Sanchez, Slow Motion For Meat; Kristina Gaardbo, Chicago Culinary Kitchen and Rockin Rodizio; and Corey Rice, a Chicago home cook.
