Randhurst Village (intersection of Rand and Elmhurst Roads in Mount Prospect) is bringing together local community groups, stores and restaurants as well as special entertainment and presentations for a day filled with family-friendly fun in a one of a kind outdoor event in its Second Annual Street Fest event Saturday September 9 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Celebrate the Centennial Celebration for Mount Prospect at this free event!

The fest will take place on Randhurst Village Drive beginning at Center Court and ending in front of AMC Randhurst theatres. This section of the Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic during the event. Guests are invited to bring their own chairs to enjoy the live performances.

Come early and stay all day. In honor of the Centennial, the first 500 guests will be treated with free birthday cake. And, every 100 minutes, a $100 gift certificate for a Randhurst Village store or restaurant will be given away.

The fun begins at 11 a.m., when the Daily Herald’s Matt Avery presents cars from the 1920s – taking guests back in time to when Mount Prospect was founded. Matt Avery, who weekly tells the stories of cars and their owners, will interview owners and showcase their vehicles.

Get ready to rock out with this year’s Street Fest headliner and area favorite 7th Heaven. The beloved band has charted #1 on the Midwest Billboard Charts three times in the past three years. 7th Heaven’s songs have been heard on over 7 radio stations in Chicagoland with their hits “Time of Our Lives”, “Stoplight”, “Better This Way” and “Sing”. They are also known for the famous “30 Songs in 30 Minutes” medley of songs from the 70’s and 80’s. 7th Heaven will be performing at Street Fest from 2 to 4 p.m.

The day will be filled with even more dance and musical performances by local community groups and young rising stars throughout the day. Performers include The Mount Prospect Park District’s Dance Ensembles, Trinity Irish Dancers, Forest View Elementary Choirs, Holmes Junior High School, and an amazing group of finalists from the Daily Herald’s Suburban Chicago’s Got Talent contest.

Enjoy food tastings and demonstrations by Randhurst Village establishments. Restaurants include: BlackFinn Ameripub, Buffalo Wild Wings, e+o food and drink, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Truco Taqueria and Outback Steakhouse. Participating retailers include: AMC Theatres, Carters, Orange Theory Fitness, PetSmart and many more.

A variety of non-profit and civic organizations will be onsite providing information on their unique services and offering interactive activities for the whole family. These wonderful groups provide a wide variety of support and education for the needs of the local community including, food for needy families, cancer and grief support, community care and education. Boys & Girls Club of Lake County (BGCLC) hosted their 15th Annual Golf Outing on Monday, July 31 at the Royal Melbourne Country Club in Long Grove (4700 Royal Melbourne Drive). The Golf Outing welcomed 150 guests and raised more than $200,000 benefitting after-school and summer programs serving more than 1,000 at-risk youth; with generous support from Title Sponsors Garrett Popcorn Shops, Frango, IDEX Corporation, and The Omtvedt Family Foundation.

“The Boys & Girls Club of Lake County Golf Outing is one of our most significant fundraisers,” says Donna Funk, Resource Development Director for the organization. “Funds raised at this event help provide the resources necessary to serve the youth in our community who need it most through positive and productive after-school and summer programs which help provide them with a path for a great future.”

Players enjoyed an afternoon of golf, lunch courtesy of Beam Suntory, and on-course beverage options. Registered golfers received access to interactive games with great prizes like ball toss, squares, mulligans and gimme string. The Shotgun Start sounded at Noon on the picturesque 18-hole course, carved into the lush surroundings of wetlands, ponds, prairies and trees. Hasta la vista! Mercadito Chicago, a Chicago PR client, is taking guests on a culinary journey down the Gulf of Mexico region with a special Summer Experiential Dinner on Monday, August 21 from 6-9 p.m.

Hosted by Corporate Chef Aldo Ayala and special guest Paul Sauter of Diageo, guests are invited to indulge in five courses accompanied by five Zacapa Rum pours.

First stop on the tour is Xalapa, the capital city of Veracruz, where guests are welcomed with Jalapeños Rellenos de Minilla, pickled jalapeños stuffed with tuna; Garnacha de Res, corn tortilla, braised beef and chile morita; and Camarón, coconut batter shrimp, pineapple marmalade and pickled red onion.

The journey continues south to Veracruz with a special Ceviche, lime marinated fish, red onion, tomato, pickled jalapeños, olives, parsley, tomato-citrus broth and crispy capers.

Next, guests head back north to Tamaulipas with Jaibas, lightly fried blue crab meat stuffed shells, tomato sofrito, garlic, parsley, Serrano chiles and breadcrumbs.

Guests will then take a stroll down the historic district of Campeche with Pollo Pibil, Achiote marinated braised chicken, banana leaf, pickled red onions and habaneros, sour orange salsita, mustard seeds and burnt tortillas.

The journey ends on a sweet note back in Veracruz with Vainilla, vanilla bean flan, piloncillo caramel and vanilla bean toasted nuts.

Real Urban Barbecue, a Molise PR client, is the official BBQ partner for BBQ for the Troops, an initiative that raises funds for local military and their families through exciting events and social media campaigns. The Chicago Automobile Trade Associate (CATA) and the USO of Illinois are partnering to host the 5th annual Barbecue for the Troops on July 15. 100 dealerships throughout the area will simultaneously fire up their grills in support of our local troops.

Imerman Angels, the leading global one-on-one cancer support community and Chicago PR client, has been named a Scale Award recipient at the 2017 Creator Awards for their work in providing free personalized connections that enable one-on-one support for cancer fighters, survivors and caregivers. The Scale Award, which includes a $180,000 grant, is given to established organizations that are ready to take their business to the next level.

The event, hosted and sponsored by WeWork, received 600 applicants that were narrowed down to five Scale Award finalists who had the opportunity to pitch their business to a panel of judges and explain how and why they are ready to expand. In addition to Imerman Angels, Chicago nonprofit Bunker Labs and Detroit-based The Empowerment Plan took home top honors in the category.

Founded in 2006 by cancer survivor Jonny Imerman, Imerman Angels to date has enabled more than 34,000 connections in all 50 states and more than 60 countries. These one-on-one relationships provide a cancer fighter or caregiver the chance to ask personal questions and receive support from someone uniquely familiar with the experience. Recent medical studies have shown that psychosocial support during and after the cancer fight is crucial to quality of life.

“We are thrilled that our work over the past 11 years has been recognized through this large award,” says Ben Bornstein, Imerman Angels CEO and Executive Director. “This grant will allow us to scale our one-on-one cancer support services by expanding our presence in other US markets outside Chicago including Detroit, Los Angeles and New York, plus reach more people touched by cancer around the world by expanding our digital presence and hiring additional cancer support specialists, including those who speak other languages.”

On Monday, June 19, Hard Rock Cafe will host a Culinary Fight Club Pitmaster Throw down Challenge from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., where four local Chicago chefs will battle it out in a seriously tasty cook-off. A portion of proceeds from the event will benefit Fight2Feed, a non-profit with a mission end hunger in Chicago by partnering with local restaurants to reduce food waste and share food with people in need.

Participating chefs will have two hours to create their best dish that combines the art of BBQ, grilling and open fire cooking. Industry experts will judge contestants based on presentation and how well the chefs have mastered the pit by cooking up the perfect protein and two sides.

Competing chefs include: Dylan Lipe, The Budlong Hot Chicken; Hipolito Sanchez, Slow Motion For Meat; Kristina Gaardbo, Chicago Culinary Kitchen and Rockin Rodizio; and Corey Rice, a Chicago home cook.

Yappy Hour on the Patio – Tuesdays

June Mixology Academy with Bulleit Bourbon – Saturday, June 17 at 3 p.m.

Just in time for summer, La Mez Agave Lounge, located downstairs at Mercadito, hosts its monthly Mixology Academy course, led by Beverage Director Paul Tanguay. The course will feature cocktails crafted with Bulleit Bourbon.

Guests are invited to learn insider tips and techniques to craft perfectly balanced cocktails at home, all while absorbing a bit of useful alcohol history about Bulleit Bourbon and getting saucy with friends and classmates. Appetizers will be provided, courtesy of Mercadito Chicago’s Executive Chef Patricio Sandoval. Guests are also welcome to purchase items off of the regular menu.

Mercadito’s Mixology Academy course costs $45 per guest, plus tax and gratuity. Reservations are required.

Dame Calor Experiential Dinner – Monday, June 19 from 6-9 p.m.

Celebrate warmer weather with a special Dame Calor Experiential Dinner. Hosted by Mercadito’s Executive Chef Patricio Sandoval and special guest Paul Sauter of Diageo, guests are invited to enjoy four courses expertly paired
with Don Julio Tequila pours.

Guests will begin the night with a Guacamole Trio that includes Sandia, Durazno and Pepino. Guests will then indulge in a Ceviche Trio that includes Camaron, Dorado and Mixto and delight in a selection of tacos, including Carne, Pollo, Langosta and Pescado. The night ends on a sweet note with Tres Leches.

The Dame Calor Experiential Dinner costs $75 per guest, plus tax and gratuity. Reservations are required.

The Imerman Angels Brunch Run 5K & Walk returns to picturesque Montrose Harbor on Saturday, June 17. Over 2,000 runners and walkers will come together along the beachside course to raise funds to support Imerman Angels and its mission of providing one-on-one support for cancer fighters, survivors and caregivers.

In addition to on-course gourmet surprises, runners and walkers alike will be treated to a signature brunch buffet from award-winning Blue Plate Catering – honored with the 2016 Leading Caterers of America Award. Each participant (21 and older) also receives a trip to the Mimosa Bar, Cold-Brewed Coffee Station featuring High Brew Coffee and an ice-cold beer.

Ready…Set…Brunch!

Created by the 2014 Catering Chef of the Year Paul Larson, the brunch menu features a full spread of brunch items including a variety of savory and vegetarian breakfast sandwiches; apple wood smoked bacon; baked cinnamon-raisin French toast casserole; house made breakfast bread assortment, a seasonal fruit display; Blue Plate pastries; roasted breakfast potatoes; Kiddo “pancake” dogs; and mini yogurt parfaits.

Participants have the option to walk or run the chip-timed 5K course, or opt for the single mile course, in honor of a loved one who has battled cancer. Form a team or walk as an individual; this is a family event and all are welcome. Registration for the 5K course costs $50 for adults and $20 for children ages 5-12. The one-mile course is $40 for adults and $20 for children ages 5-12. Children under five are free.

Those who cannot make it on June 17 may register as a virtual runner for $30 and still help raise funds supporting the Imerman Angels mission.
