As it enters its 27th year, First Look for Charity has helped raise nearly $48 million for Chicago-area charities. Attendees at the charity gala will be treated to complimentary hors d’oeuvres; champagne, wine, beer and soft drinks; and special entertainment presented by the automakers in their displays – all while being the first to see the nation’s largest auto show – the Chicago Auto Show – before it opens to the public the following day.

The Chicago Auto Show is the largest auto show in North America, spanning more than one million square feet of production, concept and exotic vehicle exhibit space.

The Chicago Auto Show’s First Look for Charity

  • Will be held on Friday, Feb. 9 from 7-11 p.m.
  • Is recognized as one of Chicago’s premier, single-day fundraisers
  • Annually raises more than $2.5 million for 18 local charities
  • Last year, a record $3 million was raised for 18 local charities.
  • Goal for 2018 is to reach $3 million.

Randhurst Village, at the corner of Rand and Elmhurst Roads in Mount Prospect, will present its annual Halloween Fall Festival, a free family festival featuring fun activities and events including a pet costume parade, exotic owls from the Stillman Nature Center, performances and fun crafts on Saturday, October 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The festivities kick-off in center court (between The Children’s Place and Carson’s) along Randhurst Village Drive at 11:30 am and continue until 4 pm. The event opens with a costume pet parade, sponsored by the Daily Herald. Prizes will be awarded to the top three entries. Registration opens at 11:30 am in front of AMC Theatre. More free family fun begins at 1 pm with pumpkin decorating stations, keepsake hats made by you with the help from the Rad Hatter, stunning live owls will join the fun, along with other awesome performances. New features this year include an energetic Balloon Show by Magical Balloon Dude Dale. A show for all ages blends comedy, artistry and music in a one-man balloon show with incredible balloon designs. The 30-minute show will begin at 1:30 pm. At 2:30 pm, the stage turns over to Ryan Freeman and team from RC Juggles Entertainment for an astonishing and enjoyable Magic Show. Guests will be amazed by illusions, impossible escapes, mind reading and comedy.

The free event will also feature the engaging Rad Hatter, Tony Melendez, who will teach kids and parents how to create their own over-the- top, spectacularly designed keepsake hats.  Stop by the pumpkin decorating stations and take home your own pumpkin! (Pumpkins for kids only, one per person.)

Special guests will again include majestic owls from the Stillman Nature Center in South Barrington.   Spice up your Halloween look with a visit to one of our glitter tattoo artists and take a ride on the horse-drawn wagon through Randhurst Village. 

Guests will be dazzled by the sand sculpture created by The Sand Sculpture Company in Woodstock, IL. They are the current record holder for the World’s Tallest Hand Built Sculpture by the Guinness Book of World Records, and pending a record for the World’s Tallest Sand Sculpture at 34’ 8 5/8”. Master sculptor Ted Siebert will create a scary sculpture of Frankenstein and his family – watch it unfold beginning October13 in front of AMC Theatre.

Petterino’s gears up to celebrate 10 years of Monday Night Live

“MNL began a decade ago with a simple concept – provide a unique entertainment option in Chicago’s theater district on a typically “dark night”. We’ve blended a sophisticated setting, professional atmosphere and appreciative audience for established and emerging singers to try out new work or simply have some fun,” says MNL executive producer, founder and co-host Denise McGowan Tracy. “We’re thrilled that it caught on and that the unique combination of talent, supper club setting and location has made MNL one of the longest-running open mic concepts in Chicago.”

Nearly 800 singers have stepped onto the stage over the years. Cast members from dozens of touring and local productions from theaters including The Goodman, The Lyric Opera, Porchlight Music Theatre, Kokandy Productions, Broadway in Chicago, and many others have popped up in MNL’s audience. Jazz artists, cabaret performers, opera singers, pop vocalists have also shared their musical talents.

The anniversary celebration will run for a month every Monday beginning September 25.

Each evening will feature $10 wine bottle specials; and a complimentary slice of birthday cake and Champagne toast for guests.

Randhurst Village (intersection of Rand and Elmhurst Roads in Mount Prospect) is bringing together local community groups, stores and restaurants as well as special entertainment and presentations for a day filled with family-friendly fun in a one of a kind outdoor event in its Second Annual Street Fest event Saturday September 9 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Celebrate the Centennial Celebration for Mount Prospect at this free event!

The fest will take place on Randhurst Village Drive beginning at Center Court and ending in front of AMC Randhurst theatres. This section of the Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic during the event. Guests are invited to bring their own chairs to enjoy the live performances.

Come early and stay all day. In honor of the Centennial, the first 500 guests will be treated with free birthday cake. And, every 100 minutes, a $100 gift certificate for a Randhurst Village store or restaurant will be given away.

The fun begins at 11 a.m., when the Daily Herald’s Matt Avery presents cars from the 1920s – taking guests back in time to when Mount Prospect was founded. Matt Avery, who weekly tells the stories of cars and their owners, will interview owners and showcase their vehicles.

Get ready to rock out with this year’s Street Fest headliner and area favorite 7th Heaven. The beloved band has charted #1 on the Midwest Billboard Charts three times in the past three years. 7th Heaven’s songs have been heard on over 7 radio stations in Chicagoland with their hits “Time of Our Lives”, “Stoplight”, “Better This Way” and “Sing”. They are also known for the famous “30 Songs in 30 Minutes” medley of songs from the 70’s and 80’s. 7th Heaven will be performing at Street Fest from 2 to 4 p.m.

The day will be filled with even more dance and musical performances by local community groups and young rising stars throughout the day. Performers include The Mount Prospect Park District’s Dance Ensembles, Trinity Irish Dancers, Forest View Elementary Choirs, Holmes Junior High School, and an amazing group of finalists from the Daily Herald’s Suburban Chicago’s Got Talent contest.

Enjoy food tastings and demonstrations by Randhurst Village establishments. Restaurants include: BlackFinn Ameripub, Buffalo Wild Wings, e+o food and drink, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Truco Taqueria and Outback Steakhouse. A variety of non-profit and civic organizations will be onsite providing information on their unique services and offering interactive activities for the whole family. The Chicago cafe is one of just 12 restaurants selected to showcase Hard Rock’s commitment to fresh ingredients, hand-crafted, regionally-inspired menu items and responsibly-sourced ingredients at each cafe. Hard Rock Cafe Chicago was selected out of 175 Hard Rock locations around the world, based on the regions’ unique culinary offerings, local flavors and flare.

Hard Rock’s Test Kitchen highlights a handpicked group of cafes acting as the front-line for Hard Rock Cafe’s menu evolution. The Test Kitchen program reinforces the brand’s commitment to featuring authentic American cuisine on Hard Rock Cafe menus around the world. Culinary Fight Club will take place on June 19 and feature a showdown between four local chefs with proceeds benefiting local non-profit, Fight2Feed. Yappy Hour Tuesdays will kick off on June 20 and take place on the dog-friendly outside patio.

Culinary Fight Club Pitmaster Throw down Challenge – Monday, June 19

On Monday, June 19, Hard Rock Cafe will host a Culinary Fight Club Pitmaster Throw down Challenge from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., where four local Chicago chefs will battle it out in a seriously tasty cook-off. A portion of proceeds from the event will benefit Fight2Feed, a non-profit with a mission end hunger in Chicago by partnering with local restaurants to reduce food waste and share food with people in need.

Participating chefs will have two hours to create their best dish that combines the art of BBQ, grilling and open fire cooking. Industry experts will judge contestants based on presentation and how well the chefs have mastered the pit by cooking up the perfect protein and two sides.

Competing chefs include: Dylan Lipe, The Budlong Hot Chicken; Hipolito Sanchez, Slow Motion For Meat; Kristina Gaardbo, Chicago Culinary Kitchen and Rockin Rodizio; and Corey Rice, a Chicago home cook.

Yappy Hour on the Patio – Tuesdays

The Imerman Angels Brunch Run 5K & Walk returns to picturesque Montrose Harbor on Saturday, June 17. Over 2,000 runners and walkers will come together along the beachside course to raise funds to support Imerman Angels and its mission of providing one-on-one support for cancer fighters, survivors and caregivers.

In addition to on-course gourmet surprises, runners and walkers alike will be treated to a signature brunch buffet from award-winning Blue Plate Catering – honored with the 2016 Leading Caterers of America Award. Each participant (21 and older) also receives a trip to the Mimosa Bar, Cold-Brewed Coffee Station featuring High Brew Coffee and an ice-cold beer.

Ready…Set…Brunch!

Created by the 2014 Catering Chef of the Year Paul Larson, the brunch menu features a full spread of brunch items including a variety of savory and vegetarian breakfast sandwiches; apple wood smoked bacon; baked cinnamon-raisin French toast casserole; house made breakfast bread assortment, a seasonal fruit display; Blue Plate pastries; roasted breakfast potatoes; Kiddo “pancake” dogs; and mini yogurt parfaits.

Participants have the option to walk or run the chip-timed 5K course, or opt for the single mile course, in honor of a loved one who has battled cancer. Form a team or walk as an individual; this is a family event and all are welcome. Registration for the 5K course costs $50 for adults and $20 for children ages 5-12. The one-mile course is $40 for adults and $20 for children ages 5-12. Children under five are free.

Those who cannot make it on June 17 may register as a virtual runner for $30 and still help raise funds supporting the Imerman Angels mission.
