Make Cinco de Mayo a weeklong celebration at Mercadito Chicago, a Chicago PR agency client, with a Cinco de Mayo Experiential Dinner on Monday, May 1 and a special five-course prix fixe menu available Friday, May 5. Plus, guests are invited to attempt Mercadito’s Vato Loco cocktail, known as the “Hottest Drink on Earth.”

Cinco de Mayo Experiential Dinner, May 1 from 6-9 p.m.

Start the festivities early with a special Cinco de Mayo Experiential Dinner. Guests are invited to enjoy five courses, each expertly paired with Mezcales de Leyenda pours.

Begin the celebration with a selection of Botanas Mexicanas that includes Tostaditas de Tinga de Res, Guacamole con Chicharron, Tacos Dorados, Sopes de Chorizo and Tacos de Chicharron en Salsa.

Guests will then enjoy Tamales de Mole Poblano, revel in Chile Relleno de Quesillo and indulge in Pozole Rojo. For dessert, guests will be treated to Flan Napolitano. 

The Cinco de Mayo Experiential Dinner costs $85 per guest, plus tax and gratuity. Reservations are required.

Plus, guests are invited with caution to try the Vato Loco cocktail, known as “The Hottest Drink on Earth” at Mercadito. The Vato Loco is perfectly mixed with ancho- infused blanco tequila, arbol chile syrup, pineapple-habanero puree, whole milk, fresh lime juice, a flaming jalapeno with over-proofed rum and four dashes of Tabasco, $15. Guests are required to sign a waiver form before attempting the Vato Loco cocktail.

1-on-1 Cancer Support Community Celebrates Tenth Anniversary in 2016

 Imerman Angels, a Chicago PR Agency’s client, is pleased to announce that Erin Leyden has been appointed Chief Operating Officer of the non-profit, one-on-one cancer support community.

2Leyden will continue to serve as Director of Development at Imerman Angels, in which capacity she is responsible for fundraising, marketing, corporate partnerships and event planning efforts.  Since joining Imerman Angels in 2013, revenue nearly doubled and she continues to create and manage major annual fundraising events such as the Wings of Hope Gala, which has honored influencers in the cancer community including 1871 CEO Howard Tullman, Walgreens, and Fleet Feet CEO Dave Zimmer.  Leyden has also played a large part in the development and success of Team Imerman Angels (running program).

“Erin Leyden has played a critical role in the development of Imerman Angels during the past three years,” says Imerman Angels Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, Ben Bornstein. “I am excited to work alongside her in this expanded role as we celebrate our ten-year anniversary and continue to grow our cancer community and network of survivors and fighters to ensure that no one faces cancer alone.”

Prior to serving as Director of Development for Imerman Angels, Leyden served as Vice President of Development, Marketing and Communications at the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago.

A Chicago native, with a Master’s Degree in Information Systems, Leyden first entered the non-profit world through the founding of her own organization in 2006 after her young son started having seizures.  Leyden and her family soon started the American Epilepsy Outreach Foundation, a national organization created to raise epilepsy awareness and provide support to those affected by epilepsy and their families. In 2009 Leyden was recognized by People Magazine and Major League Baseball as an All Star Among Us for her work in her community.

In 2010, Leyden merged the organization with the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago to better serve the 130,000 individuals living with epilepsy throughout Illinois.  As the Vice President of Development, Marketing and Communications she oversaw all of development including events, volunteers, outreach, and all aspects of marketing and communications.

Erin Leyden lives in Norwood Park with her three children and her husband, Patrick who is an instructor and team leader for the Chicago SWAT team.

 Neighborly Quest: Decoct-A-Bock vs. Undecoct-A-Bock

Gino’s Brewing Company, located on the first floor of Gino’s East River North (500 N. LaSalle), teamed up with Rock Bottom Brewery Chicago (1 W Grand Ave) on Wednesday, December 16 for a unique craft beer experiment to unveil the myths behind the age-old brewing process of decoction mashing.

Before malted barley was well modified, a portion of the mash was boiled to achieve a consistent brew in a process known as decoction mashing. These days, single infusion mashing is more common yet some brewers continue to decoct. Why? Some swear by a fuller flavor imparted by boiling the grain. However, others think that in this day and age, decoction mashing is a big waste of time.

This collaboration between Gino’s Brewing Company’s brewmaster Kevin McMahon and Rock Bottom Brewery Chicago’s head brewer Hayley Shine is the true essence of nerdy brewer futility. The two have worked together to create two versions of a German style Bock. Gino’s Brewing Company’s Decoct-A-Bock uses a single decoction mash and Rock Bottom Brewery’s Undecoct-A-Bock is made with a single infusion mash. Their only mission is to settle once and for all if there is a difference in the color, aroma or flavors between the two methods.

On Wednesday, December 16 guests were invited to sample the collaborative craft beers side-by-side. Guests visited both locations and compared the flavor profiles of each brewing method and collected both souvenir pint glasses.

Gene & Georgetti Rosemont (9421 W. Higgins Rd, Rosemont, IL, 60018.), popped open the Champagne bottles and rang in the New Year with a special performance from Chicago-based jazz vocalist Paul Marinaro on December 31, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Along with a menu of classics like prime steaks, chops and Italian fare, at midnight, guests enjoyed a complimentary Champagne toast to ring in the New Year. (Gene & Georgetti’s downtown location at 500 N. Franklin also served a complimentary Champagne toast.)

On Saturday, Nov. 7 at 9 p.m., Hard Rock Cafe Chicago, a Molise PR client, hosted a live performance and an exclusive VIP Meet & Greet with Drake Bell. Additionally, food and beverages were served throughout the show.

No stranger to the big stage – Bell is best known for his roles on Nickelodeon’s The Amanda Show, his starring role on Drake & Josh and for co-writing and performing the theme song to Drake & Josh entitled “Found A Way.” In 2005, Bell released his first debut album, Telegraph, followed by It’s Only Time in 2006 and Ready, Set, Go! in 2014. Bell has toured high schools all around the U.S. during the High School Nation Tour and continues to write and perform with his band.

The special guest opener was Ohio native rock band, Liberty Deep Down, who is known for their unique pop-alternative sound with catchy melodies and vocals. The band has received instant recognition after the release of their 4-song EP back in 2013. This high energy rock band has toured throughout the Midwest, Northeast and West Coast and continues to play live shows, all while gaining fans nationwide.

Randhurst Village Celebrates the Holiday Season
Presenting The Magical Animated Holiday Light Show
December 11-21

It’s the most magical time of the year, and Randhurst Village, a Chicago PR firm client, at the corner of Rand and Elmhurst Roads in Mount Prospect, is celebrating the holiday shopping season with a Magical Animated Holiday Light Show that will make the whole family awestruck.

From December 11 through December 21, Randhurst Village will present a magical light projection show every night at Center Court. The show will be projected onto a portion of the Hampton Hotel building, bringing it to life with a customized 3-D projection featuring elves, icicles, snow and other holiday images, all set to dramatic holiday music.

The light show will run every half hour from 6 – 8 pm each evening. On Friday and Saturday, December 11, 12 and 18,19, there will be a pre-show with Those Funny Little People Holiday Elves at 5:30 pm.

Randhurst Village is located at the intersection of Rand Road (Rt. 12) and Elmhurst Road (Rt. 83) in Mt. Prospect, IL 60056.

The Chicago Hunter Derby returned to the picturesque Annali-Brookwood Farm (18752 Edwards Road, Antioch, IL) this weekend September 4 – 6, 2015. This signature, annual event was hosted by Chicago Equestrians for a Cause, and raised over $150,000 in 2014, with more than $500,000 in total contributions made since its inception in 2009.

This year’s benefiting charities were: Ann & Robert H Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, the University of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation and the United States Hunter Jumper Association Foundation. The derby weekend kicked off Friday with a National and International Welcome Stake sponsored by Sea Change Farm.

On Saturday the excitement continued with the $5,000 National Hunter Derby, sponsored by Glory Days Farm and Gene & Georgetti Steakhouse. The guests enjoyed the first round of the $50,000 International Hunter Derby sponsored by Canadian Pacific, a transcontinental railway providing North American customers a competitive rail service with access to key markets in every corner of the globe. Spectators also enjoyed lunch and beverages, shopping, children’s activities and petting zoo, and the Derby After Dark Party, sponsored by Meadowview Farm, featured live music, great food, libations, courtesy of Angel’s Envy Bourbon.

On Sunday, the scenic property transformed into a lavish event. Sunday’s premier event was the handy round of the $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby (featuring the top 12 riders after Saturday’s first round of competition) along with the awards presentation. VIP table holders enjoyed a fantastic champagne brunch, a performance of the National Anthem by singer and songwriter John Vincent, a Calcutta, silent and live auction items, shopping and special children’s activities sponsored by the Novy and Vogel Families.

Recently one of Molise PR’s Chicago charity public relations projects included announcing Imerman Angels‘ first bilingual Cancer Support Specialist in connection with their efforts to expand outreach to enable 1-on-1 cancer support among the Hispanic cancer community. According to the American Cancer Society, one in two Hispanic men and one in three Hispanic women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.”Hispanics are the largest and fastest-growing minority group in the US. Over 113,000 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed this year, making cancer the leading cause of death among US Hispanics,” says Hector Nuñez, Imerman Angels’ Chief Operating Officer and Mexico native. “Therefore it is critical for us reach this community in a meaningful way.”

Christina Benaiges, who is originally from Venezuela, moved to Chicago in January 2013 in search of new life experiences.  Christina feels a deep personal connection to Imerman Angels, having been touched by cancer multiple times as the caregiver to her mother and grandmother who are both breast cancer survivors.

Benaiges attended the Universidad Metropolitana in Caracas where she majored in Business Administration and received a diploma in Marketing in 2007.  Prior to Imerman Angels, her experience includes working for consumer package goods companies in accounting and marketing.

“I look forward to joining Imerman Angels as a Spanish language Cancer Support Specialist,” says Benaiges.  “Family is such an important aspect of the cancer fight for the Hispanic community, and we know our personalized connections will be a welcome extension of that family dynamic.”

In addition to bringing on bilingual team members, Imerman Angels also plans on launching a second website translated into Spanish in the near future to provide greater access to one-on-one support for the Hispanic community.
