Want to hear a pizza joke? Nevermind, it’s pretty cheesy. Enough of our tired jokes; instead visit The Comedy Bar, located at Gino’s East River North’s third floor (500 N LaSalle St.) and enjoy the hilarious lineup of upcoming headliners Thursday, August 4th through Saturday August 27th.

Stop in to Gino’s East River North, a Chicago Public Relations client, to enjoy Chicago’s original deep dish pizza and other specialty menu items, plus sample new craft beers on tap provided by Gino’s Brewing Company, then head up to The Comedy Bar to enjoy stand up shows headlined by:

Shane Torres, August 4, 5 & 6: Shane Torres is a professional comedian who won Portland’s Funniest Person in 2013 and was one of Comedy Central’s Comedians (2013) to watch. He performed at Montreal’s Just For Laughs New Faces (2013) where GQ (UK) called him best newcomer. He travels the country regularly for work, including Bridgetown Comedy Festival, Bumbershoot in Seattle, and multiple clubs in the Pacific Northwest.

Michael Larimer, August 11, 12, & 13: Michael Larimer reigns from the cornfields of Iowa.  He studied theater at the prestigious Santa Monica College in California before coming to Chicago in 2004.  Mr. Larimer has trained with The Second City and iO Theaters in improvisation and sketch comedy.  He has written and performed in numerous shows there. His true passion, standup comedy, started five years ago when he was hit in the head with a golf ball, causing mild vision loss.  Mr. Larimer found a new light in standup and strives to produce smart, crazy, original, and highly energetic comedy.  He has performed in the most prestigious comedy clubs all over the Midwest.  Mr. Larimer is also the champion of the ‘Shenanigan’s Comedy Challenge’, where he won his first oversized check.  He would like to thank his friends, family and that golf ball for everything they’ve done.

Jeff Richards, August 18, 19 & 20: Jeff Richards joined the cast of Saturday Night Live as a Featured Player in September 2001. Originally from the Bay area, Jeff moved to Los Angeles in 1997 to pursue comedy as a career. He soon appeared in several local and nationwide commercials and began touring comedy clubs across the country. In 2000 Jeff briefly joined the cast of Fox’s MADtv, appearing most memorably as David Letterman. In 2001, Jeff performed on CBS’s Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn and NBC’s Late Friday. His performance on Late Friday caught the attention of Saturday Night Live who invited him to audition and then to become a feature player for the 27th season of the show. Jeff’s high-energy stand-up is a mix of his-growing arsenal of impressions (including Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka, Louie Anderson, Kevin Spacey, Gary Shandling, Charlie Rose, Don Imus, Dustin Hoffman, and Ozzy Osborne) and outrageous original characters (including the “knife guy”, the “drunk girlfriend,” her “jealous boyfriend” and the “jock/meathead” from every 80’s teen movie).

David Merheje, August 25, 26, & 27: Winner of Just For Laugh’s 2011 Irwin Barker Homegrown Comic Award and NOW Magazine’s 2011 Best of Toronto Award for Best Male Stand-up in 2011, a Canadian Comedy Award-nominee for Best Stand-up in 2012 and another nomination for NOW Magazine’s Best of Toronto Award in 2013, Dave Merheje is making waves as one of the edgiest comics in the country today. Drawing from his Lebanese-Canadian perspective and personal experiences straight from the streets, Merheje is unfettered by political correctness. His “no fear” approach to comedy has gained a loyal following. Pure raging energy, he is electric, aggressive and in-your-face. Nothing is sacred as he fires off on urban life, Middle Eastern politics, Islamic extremists, working in strip clubs, club culture, drugs and masturbation.

He won the 2013 Canadian On Campus Activities (COCA) Performer of the Year award, has been nominated for NOW Magazine’s Best of Toronto “Best Male Stand-up”, and shot several episodes for the upcoming television series Too Much Information, which will air on Super Channel!
He also joined the Gemini Award-winning pop culture series MTV Live as an on-air contributor and became a finalist in NBC’s Stand-up for Diversity search and joined the Stand-up for Diversity College Touring Company performing at select colleges and universities across the US.

Weekly rotating headliner shows are on Thursdays at 8pm, Fridays at 8pm & 10pm, and Saturdays at 7:30pm & 9:30pm.

Molise PR client Mercadito Chicago, River North’s upscale, authentic Mexican restaurant (108 W. Kinzie St.) announces their new downstairs mezcal lounge, La Mez Agave Lounge, opened to the public on Friday, March 18.

La Mez Agave Lounge features a comprehensive, rotating list of more than 80 mezcals, carefully curated by the Tippling Bros., along with expertly crafted mezcal cocktails created with head mixologist Dylan Stewart.

Mezcal, often referred to as the cousin of tequila, is a centuries-old spirit produced mainly in the Oaxaca region of Mexico and made from the agave plant. Distillers traditionally slow-roast the agave by burying it in pit ovens, which infuses the final product with its signature smoky, complex flavor profile.

“With all the years that we’ve been involved with Mercadito and, specifically, working with agave spirits, we have seen a prodigious growth in interest of mezcal. Not just on the industry side, but with consumers alike. This speaks highly about the level of sophistication that people now seek,” comments Paul Tanguay of Tippling Bros.

Cocktails include:unspecified

“The Chicago dining and nightlife scene is driven by craft cocktails, but there are always more experiences to be discovered,” says Chef Patricio.  “Our new mezcal and culinary offerings are a fitting progression for us, since our specialty has been tequila and our roots are in Mexico.”

The intimate lounge has seating for up to 60 guests, and will feature DJ music on weekends.  Hours of operation for La Mez are Tuesday – Friday 4 p.m. – 2 a.m.; and Saturday 4 p.m. – 3 a.m.

Wish Upon A Wedding has appointed Michelle Durpetti, Founder and President of Michelle Durpetti Events and Managing Partner of Gene & Georgetti, as President of Wish Upon A Wedding’s Chicago Chapter for 2016. Wish Upon a Wedding is a nonprofit organization that provides weddings and vow renewals for couples facing serious illness and serious life-altering circumstance.

“Michelle is a founding board member of the Chicago chapter of Wish Upon a Wedding and her contributions as Event Chair for two years prior to this appointment are priceless,” says outgoing President Ali Phillips, of Engaging Events by Ali. “Michelle’s expertise in wedding planning, along with her relationships with amazing wedding vendors in Chicago, makes her the perfect fit. I look forward to working with her and her chapter as I continue my role as National President of the Board of Directors of Wish Upon a Wedding, a position I have held for two years.”

Fellow 2016 Chicago Chapter board members are: Vice President Tiffany Andrews Munster; Treasurer Lori Stephenson; Secretary Kate Molter; Event Chair Misha Newgren; Marketing Chair Shannon Gail Clemonds and Wish Coordinators Sandy Sobczak and Sarah Deeke and immediate past president/National President, Ali Phillips.

“I am honored to take the baton from my friend and greatly admired industry colleague Ali Phillips,” says Durpetti.  “I look forward to working alongside this talented group of women. Together we will continue Wish Upon A Wedding’s mission of bringing dream wedding wishes for couples facing serious life circumstances to a reality.”

About Wish Upon a Wedding
Wish Upon A Wedding was founded in 2010 in Santa Clara, CA by Liz Guthrie as a way to celebrate the courage, determination and spirit of couples, where one individual in the relationship is faced with a terminal diagnosis by granting their dream wedding wish, and for these chosen recipients to inspire other couples facing similar situations to find hope and strength.

The charity also grants “Urgent Wishes” for individuals who are imminently ill. These smaller, intimate ceremonies may take place in couple’s home, hospital or hospice facility within a few weeks after their wish is approved by the charity.

Weddings are at very small costs for the individuals. Most weddings include a wedding planner, venue, caterer, rentals, photographer, videographer, cake, officiant, florist, stationary designer, DJ/musician, hair & makeup and transportation. Other items may be included depending on available resources.

The 501(c)3 organization is overseen by a national board of directors. It relies on local volunteers, and wish granters and wish ambassadors to help provide services and goods for the weddings.

About Michelle Durpetti
Since the inception of Michelle Durpetti Events in 2008, Michelle has planned and produced over 300 weddings and events including some of Chicago’s most notable, celeb-studded events such as the Chicago Gateway Green’s annual Green Tie Ball, the Fiera Italiana, in conjunction with the annual Columbus Day Parade, for the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans, and the Chicago Hunter Derby where she was the recipient of the Marion Maybank Volunteer Award in 2014 in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the Chicago Hunter Derby and the Chicago Equestrians for a Cause.

Michelle is a Chicago Public Relations firm client who also brings her expertise to her role as Managing Partner, and marketing and special events manager, at her family-owned restaurant Gene & Georgetti, Chicago’s oldest and finest steakhouse in Chicago, celebrating 75 years. In 2015 she and her family successfully opened their second location, Gene & Georgetti Rosemont, with an adjacent wedding and events venue, The Estate by Gene & Georgetti.

Michelle was selected as a “Bride’s Choice” winner on Wedding Wire in 2013, and “Best of” wedding planner by The Knot in 2014. A BIT OF LONG GROVE HISTORY –
Did You Know?
The historic 40-foot flagpole on Towner Green, cheerfully decorated with   lights to resemble a holiday tree, was previously on Terry Druggen’s Long Grove Farm. Terry Druggen, an Al Capone associate, erected the flagpole on the Long Grove farm during prohibition. Druggen’s assistant would raise the flag (originally double the size, and visible from a mile away), if it was safe to come to the farm. If the flag was lowered, it meant “someone” was looking for them and they should stay away. Lightening stuck the flagpole in the 1950s reducing it to its more modest 40-foot height.
