Real Urban Barbecue, a Molise PR client, is the official BBQ partner for BBQ for the Troops, an initiative that raises funds for local military and their families through exciting events and social media campaigns. The Chicago Automobile Trade Associate (CATA) and the USO of Illinois are partnering to host the 5th annual Barbecue for the Troops on July 15. 100 dealerships throughout the area will simultaneously fire up their grills in support of our local troops.

Skokie is getting smoky… Real Urban Barbecue, with locations in Downtown Highland Park, Vernon Hills, and Oak Brook, is proud to announce the grand opening of their fourth location in Skokie on Friday, June 23 at 10 a.m. Located at 5238 W. This year marks the 25th edition of First Look for Charity. First Look for Charity is recognized as Chicago’s single largest one-day fundraiser, bringing in $42 million for local charities since its inception in 1992. The Chicago Automobile Trade Association (CATA) and United Service Organizations (USO) have designated the month of July as the official month to support troops and their families by hosting USO Barbecue for the Troops events at CATA dealerships throughout Chicagoland.In just two years, CATA dealerships have been able to raise $125,000 for the USO of Illinois by hosting Barbecue for the Troops fundraising events, and this year is shaping up to be even bigger! Wednesday July 1 was the kick-off event with media at the United Center in conjunction with the Blackhawks, previewing what the barbecues on July 18 will be all about- delicious food, fun activities, and paying respects to our troops and flag.
Former Chicago Blackhawks player, Denis Savard, made an appearance at the event by signing autographs and taking pictures with fans. Blackhawk’s National Anthem singer, Jim Cornelison stopped by to sing the National Anthem and pose for pictures with fans.
TV stations like ABC, along with others, were there to cover the event. Real Urban Barbecue had a never ending line of hungry guests who were more than ready to chow down on some BBQ!
On July 15, Real Urban Barbecue made an appearance on Windy City Live to discuss BBQ for the Troops.
Throughout July, there will also be a launching the Cup Holder Change Drive initiative to encourage people to stop by their local dealer service center – during their next oil change or tire rotation – and donate the loose change from their cup holders. Every cent counts and will be donated directly to local troops.To top it off, Chicago Public Relations firm client Real Urban Barbecue will be sponsoring a social media challenge as a month-long campaign in order to spread awareness for the July 18 BBQ events; fans will be encouraged to submit a 15-second video or image with #BBQ4Troops explaining why they want to host the Ultimate Backyard BBQ for the Troops. Real Urban Barbecue celebrity chef will conduct cooking demos and provide food for the event, and guests will get to rub elbows with a Blackhawks player and ambassador!

Chicago Public Relations Firm, Molise PR, has had a successful few weeks with one of our clients, Real Urban BBQ, as they have been competing in barbeque competitions and food festivals around Chicagoland like RibFest Chicago, Taste of Lincolnshire, Taste of Highland Park and Little Bear RibfFest. They have been gaining recognition left and right. Most recently, they competed in The Windy City BBQ Classic. The competition hosted 30 teams from across the USA. Each team used a smoker, and according to the rules, no team was allowed to use gas or electricity.
There they ended up taking first place in the People’s Choice category. This just goes to show that people just can’t get enough of Real Urban Barbecue’s goodness. Once you have a taste it’s hard not to keep eating.
But this is just the tip of the ice berg for Real Urban Barbecue. In addition to their most recent success this past weekend, they have also been Voted Chicago’s Best BBQ by the readers’ of Chicago Magazine, the only restaurant to place in both the judges’ and peoples’ choice categories at RibFest Chicago, and Voted “Best Service” at the Taste of Highland Park 2013.
Yesterday to show their employees appreciation for all their hard work, Real Urban Barbecue closed early and took their employees out to a Cubs game in Wrigley field. It was an outing that included great weather, entertainment, and good company all around.
It’s safe to say that Real Urban Barbecue is taking the Chicagoland area by storm. If you weren’t able to catch them at any of their more recent events then have no fear, September is full of opportunities. This Saturday, September 7, Real Urban Barbecue kicks off Northwestern Football season. They will now be selling food during the tailgate (in Wildcat Alley) and inside the stadium during the game at every home game. So you will have quite a few chances to enjoy delicious food, and some quality football.
In addition, on September 15th, Jeff will be doing a live cooking demo at Deerfield Library. This is a great opportunity to brush up on some new barbecuing tips. Lastly, Real Urban will be at Chicago Gourmet in Millennium Park during September 28th & 29. This will be an event you won’t want to miss. It has been quite the week at Molise PR, Chicago Public Relations Firm, and we couldn’t be more proud of our wonderful clients. From the Chicago Auto Show First Look for Charity Gala to Valentine’s Day festivities, we have definitely kept busy.
On Friday, February 8, the Molise PR team got all dolled up in honor of the Chicago Auto Show’s First Look for Charity Gala. On top of helping with some of the gala’s public relations, we were there to support two of our awesome clients, Garrett Popcorn Shops and Real Urban Barbecue, who were food vendors at this great event. On top of the thousands of beautiful people, concept cars and delicious food, the gala benefited 18 local Chicagoland charities.
Valentine’s Day brought many exciting things for Molise PR and our clients with many of them being featured on local news stations.
Summer Jackson of WCIU’s You and Me This Morning graced us with her presence at Ignite Glass Studios, an interactive glass blowing facility and event space in Chicago’s West Loop. Summer toured the facility, interviewed a few Ignite team members and even learned how to create her own glass heart for her Uniquely Chicago segment promoting Ignite’s Valentine’s Day workshop. The whole Ignite team had a blast having Summer in the Hot Shop and her glass heart turned out wonderfully!
Client Eduardo’s Enoteca, part of the iconic Chicago Bravo Restaurants, was featured on the WGN Midday News Lunch Break segment. Jordan Himmel, chef and general manager of Eduardo’s Enoteca, demoed a delicious Gnocci recipe with anchor Dina Bair promoting their Valentine’s Day night of romance held at the restaurant which included a showing of the movie Casablanca, cocktails and a 5-course meal. Also on WGN this week was Chicago’s Finest Steakhouse and our dear friends, Gene & Georgetti. General manager Rich Ciota demoed a Filet Marsala dish, the perfect meal for those who wanted to have a nice night at home on Valentine’s Day.Over at FOX News head stylist and founder of Evolve Chicago, Jessi Sheehan, showed viewers how to be sexy on Valentine’s Day without being scandalous. She dressed five models from head to toe with looks that fit all sorts of Valentine’s Day date nights from staying in to hitting the town. Jessi did a great job, we are proud mamas over here at the Molise PR offices!
And finally, client Ed Debevic’s welcomed the cast of Chicago’s newest Broadway show, I love Lucy, in the restaurant to give guests a very special Valentine’s Day treat. The cast interacted with dining guests, danced and sang, and portrayed the show that so many people have loved and adored for many years, and NBC was there to capture all the action!

Prior to opening Real Urban Barbecue, owner Jeff Shapiro worked for Lettuce Entertain You for 14 years at restaurants including Bones, RJ Grunts, Bub City, Pappagus and PJ Clarke’s. He most recently served as director of operations of Carmichael’s Steak House in the West Loop for six years. Shapiro has been winning trophies in the BBQ competition circuit for many years under the team name Dr. Deckle and Mr. Hide.
