While August 5 is recognized as National Oyster Day, Devon Seafood Grill, a Molise PR client, (39 E. Chicago Ave.) will take the culinary holiday a step further by declaring August 1 – 5 National Oyster Week. In celebration both the occasion and the launch to their New Oyster Bar, they will offer fresh-shucked specials each day that week:
Monday, August 1, Oyster Shooters: ice cold oyster juice, vodka, served with Tabasco sauce, lemon; $5
Tuesday, August 2, East Coast vs. West Coast: choose from four West Coast oysters and four East Coast oysters, $2 each, from 4 – 7 p.m.
Wednesday, August 3, One Buck Shuck: $1 oysters on the half shell from 4-7 p.m. in the Oyster Bar
Thursday, August 4, Six Pack Special: an ice cold can of Pabst Blue Ribbon and five oysters, $12
Friday, August 5, Three-Course Bubbly and Oyster Tasting: presented by Executive Chef David Rolon and General Manager Tim Sherlock, 6 p.m., $35 plus tax and gratuity, reservations are required by calling 312-440-8660.
First Course: Oyster Fritters, candied soy sauce and shaved scallion slaw; paired with Belleruche Rose,
Second Course: Maple Mustard Glazed Oysters baked Rockefeller style; paired with Domaine Carneros by Taittinger Brut,
Third Course: Oyster Crusted Scallops served with lobster beurre blanc; paired with La Marca Prosecco.

The Oyster Bar’s new menu also offers starters including New England Clam Chowder; Maine Lobster Bisque; Baby Greens Salad; Cheddar Peppercorn Biscuits; Smoked Salmon Carpaccio & Shrimp Ceviche; Fried Calamari; Coconut Curry Blue Hill Bay Mussels; Cornbread(ed) Rock Shrimp; Wasabi Vegetable Tempura; 36-Hour Pork Belly; Big Eye Tuna Poke; Grilled Octopus; Snake River Farms Wagyu Beef Tartare; Rock Shrimp Nage; Grilled Artichokes poached with Goose Island Four Star Pils; and Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes. The Oyster Bar’s beverage program supports local purveyors by pouring select craft beer and spirits crafted in Chicago and around the Midwest region. Featured local spirits include KOVAL Distillery, Willa Vodka and CH Distillery in Chicago; and Death’s Door Spirits from Middleton, WI.
New cocktails, $12, include the Ginger Pear Whiskey Fizz, with house infused Death’s
Door White Whiskey with White Ginger Pear Tea Forté, La Marca Prosecco float; and the Chamomile Sour, house infused Templeton Rye Whiskey with Chamomile Citron Tea Forté, fresh sour mix, egg white. The newest time-lapse infusion Porthole Cocktail, $23 serves two people, is the Moscow Mule with Russian Standard Vodka, fresh mint, Fever-Tree Premium Ginger Beer, lime, served with copper mugs.
